Dandelion Woman

DandelionWoman

I am a dandelion woman.
ugly and beautiful
fragile and strong
awkward and graceful
weed and flower
taking up space and incredibly useful
(depends on who I am listening to)
I keep my heart in my root.
Buried underground, it goes so deep
foot and mower and grasping hand
cannot reach.
I hear the wind, I feel the sun and rain
all telling me
“God makes no mistakes”, and
“there is a reason for you”
I long to be still, to hear
these messages and let
them go down my root.
Because of the chopping, because of the
tearing and the stomping and
the blades
but also because
of the sun and rain and wind
I have been so many different persons already
above my root.
Buried underground, it goes so deep
that no matter what the world does
I will always grow.
